  • i am...motivated..by love? o_O

have you ever heard of those experiments where the scientist or teacher places a candy or marshmallow on a table, tells the kid that he's going to go outside and if, when he comes back, the kid still hasnt touched the candy/marshmallow, he'll give the kid a second one?

and then studies followed the kids some years later and found that the kids who were willing to wait tended to be more successful in life.

i thought about what i'd do if i were a kid placed in that situation (I LOVED CANDY i had like 3 cavities because of them :[ ) and interestingly enough, though im pretty sure i wouldve waited, my motivation would have been because i wanted to make the adult proud of me.

i think a lot of the things i do is not because i want to do them but because i'm motivated by others. because of this, it's extremely easy for me to do thing i normally wouldnt as long as someone asks me to (and them being there helps tremendously). no idea how i came to be this way

  • any suggestions?!

so um, i'm thinking of taking a year off of university and going off to live on my own for a year in washington to think over about my life and which direction i'm going to go in for the future- any suggestions on surviving? talking to the parents, financial issues, which jobs to go for...thanks! :)

background info for those of you who are still interested in reading on: currently a full-time student double majoring in chinese language and literature and soon to be adding on computer science engineering (still quite a beginner in programming though...) dependent on my stereotypical asian parents for tuition fees. have not worked at a job before other than helping out my parents doing mailings and some computer work (mostly video editing)

    DO I HAVE A CHANCE?
